As a local bike shop that strives to support the local community, especially when it comes to getting more kids on bikes, we have come up with a program we think is pretty special. We spend a lot of our time and resources volunteering for local causes such as development of the Washougal Bike Park and fostering student mountain bike teams within leagues of the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA). Occasionally we will directly donate to such causes, but as a small business we can’t always give what we would like on our limited resources. Therefore, we’ve come up with a special way to generate more funds for these organizations by teaming up with our customers and local community. Since we are often asked to buy or consign used bikes and gear we decided we would see if people would be willing to donate their goods towards a cause. Then instead of consigning the product in the traditional manner and splitting the proceeds with the customer, the shop spends the time to advertise and sell the item. Waiving the consignment and service fees, together we are able to commit 100% of the proceeds to the non-profit organization of the customers choice listed below. This makes for a great partnership between the shop and customer in supporting community non-profit projects or programs! To date, we have raised over $5,000 thru the Camas Bikes CCC with items such the following; bikes, parts, trainers, spin bikes, and trailers! Next time you need to part with some gear, consider donating it to the CCC and join us in helping support these non-profit organizations that support cycling in your communities.
Non-Profit choices for proceeds can be pledged to;
- Oregon NICA Youth League
- Washougal Bike Park
- Evergreen MTB Southwest Chapter
- Northwest Trail Alliance
- Vancouver Bike Club
- Downtown Camas Association
Disclaimer: The shop will ultimately determine whether we can partner on selling an item and have the right to refuse a proposed donated item for any reason, including issues related to storage limitations of the inventory. Not all items will qualify, as they must meet acceptable condition and quality.
